April 30 - International Jazz Day Concert

Join us as we celebrate International Jazz Day at the Watchung Arts Center.

Live jazz concert followed by open jam session, featuring local college students. This concert has been registered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) as an official International Jazz Day event. See you there!

The Third Annual Valentine Jazz Concert with the Chris DeVito Quintet

The Watchung Arts Center will host its first “International Jazz Day Concert” featuring John Lenis (acoustic bass), Gavin Davies (drums) and Chris DeVito (piano) plus special guest Mayuko Abe (trumpet).

Concert starts at 7:00 pm and includes an open jam session at 8:30 pm featuring music students from local schools as well as local jazz artists. Tickets are $20 (free for music students with advance jam session registration) and can be purchased at WatchungArts.com.

Mayuko is a visiting jazz artist from Japan who is earning her graduate degree at William Paterson College. It is fitting that this rising star jazz artist is joining us on April 30^th, designated by UNESCO as International Jazz Day and the final day of April, designated as “Jazz Appreciation Month”, or “JAM” by the Smithsonian Institute.

About International Jazz Day

Each year on April 30, International Jazz Day, the final day of Jazz Appreciation Month ("JAM"), jazz is celebrated as the international art form recognized for promoting peace, dialogue among cultures, diversity, and respect for human rights and human dignity; eradicating discrimination; fostering gender equality; and promoting freedom of expression. International Jazz Day was originally organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ("UNESCO") in 2011 "to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe."
