April 12 - International Jazz Day Concert

Join us as we celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month at the Watchung Arts Center.

Live jazz concert followed by open jam session, featuring local college students and jazz pros. Everyone is welcome to listen or jam. This concert has been registered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) as an official International Jazz Day event. See you there!

The Third Annual Valentine Jazz Concert with the Chris DeVito Quintet

The Watchung Arts Center will host its second “International Jazz Day Concert” featuring John Lenis (acoustic bass), Gavin Davies (drums) and Chris DeVito (piano) plus special guest Seth Burke (trumpet).

Concert starts at 3:00 pm and includes an open jam session at 4:00 pm featuring music students from local schools as well as local jazz artists. Tickets are $25 (free for music students with advance jam session registration: @info@bluetrufflemusic to register) and can be purchased at WatchungArts.com.

Seth is a visiting jazz artist from Alaska who is earning his degree in Jazz/Classical Performance at William Paterson College. It is fitting that

this rising star jazz artist is joining us on April 12^th.This event is recognized by UNESCO as an official International Jazz Day event.

April Is Jazz Appreciation Month

In celebrating America's 250th anniversary, the Smithsonian Institute has once again designated April as “Jazz Appreciation Month”, or “JAM”.

Established in 2001 by the National Museum of American History, Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) returns in April to celebrate the genre as a vital American art form and major cultural export. The initiative, highlighting jazz’s roots in improvisation and its role as a "living" art form, culminates annually on April 30th with International Jazz Day. The Smithsonian supports this heritage through the Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, educational programming, and extensive archival collections.

The 2026 official JAM poster features a 1995 portrait of the legendary Tony Bennett by artist Everett Raymond Kinstler, celebrating the singer's profound impact on the American songbook as part of the nation's 250th anniversary.
